This drawing reveals what was perhaps the greatest challenge to people of color living along the water’s edge: Flooding. In the drawing, a person straddles their house which floats in a sea of waves. The family in the foreground load a carriage with their children, and bewail the home, extra possessions, and farm animals that they have to leave behind.
